US President Donald Trump has commented on whether he discussed a plan to sell the World Cup rights to private investors with FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Sport.Biz reports that earlier media reports said the main investor would be a fund established by Joshua Kushner, the younger brother of Jared Kushner, the husband of Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka.
"No, I have never discussed this with him," Trump said at a cabinet meeting at Camp David.
FIFA has previously released a project concept for the creation of a subsidiary company worth $20 billion. According to the plan, a quarter of it will be sold to private investors for $4.2 billion. Payments to national federations will increase from $8 million to $20 million for the next four-year period, and to $22 million and $24 million, respectively, for the next two periods. It is emphasized that the majority of federations must decide to start the project. The approval of the FIFA Council is also required.
