A shocking event has occurred in Russian football.
Idman.biz, referring to Apasport.az, reports that the management of the "Torpedo" club, which was promoted from the First League to the Premier League, is accused of bribery.
According to reports, the club's co-founder Leonid Sobolev and CEO Valeri Skorodumov have been detained for offering a bribe to a referee. They have been charged under Article 291 of the Russian Criminal Code (bribery).
According to the allegations, the executives offered referee Maxim Perezva 6 million rubles (approximately 66,000 euros) to change the results of 3 matches in the 2024/25 season in favor of "Torpedo". However, Perezva rejected the offer and reported it to law enforcement.
After that, searches were carried out in both the club's offices and the suspects' apartments, and electronic devices and documents were confiscated. Currently, both individuals are under investigation, and if their guilt is proven, they face up to 15 years in prison.
It should be noted that the "Torpedo" club finished second in the Russian First League this season and qualified for the Premier League. However, due to the resulting scandal, the team's participation in the top league may also be in question.
