After the "Sumgayit" - "Qarabag" match (3:4) of the XXXIII round of the Misli Premier League, the head coach of the home team, Sasha Ilic, answered journalists' questions. Sport24.az reports that the expert first shared his thoughts on the meeting:
– It was an interesting game. Both teams gave young people a chance. There were enough goal episodes. The opponent scored goals again from our mistakes.
– According to news in the press, you will be leaving "Sumgayit". If you leave, what will be your impressions?
– I have good impressions. The people here are very nice. "Sumgayit" is not a top club, but we worked hard enough to be in good places. It was an interesting experience for me.
– Why are you leaving?
– My contract is expiring. But we will still talk to the management, if the club's wishes are to qualify for European cups, certain expenses are needed. There is a need for change. I'm not saying that the current players are bad, there is just a reality. A high-level team should make minimal mistakes. We have made simple mistakes throughout the season. That's why there should be a change.
– As a coach, you have not stayed in a team for long. As a person, do you like to travel, or have you not found the club you want?
– Everything does not depend on me. But I have also worked enough in certain countries, it has been an interesting experience for me. "Sumgayit" is also a great experience. This club has a very good stadium and base. However, changes are needed for some progress.
– At the beginning of the season, you said that our goal is to go to European cups. If we go back now, would you still be of this opinion?
– That's not the point. There are many situations in football. "Leicester" was once a champion, this season they also dropped out of the Championship. We lost enough points this season, we were the better side in some matches. If there are no mistakes, the result will come.
– You have had good games against "Qarabag" this season. Why couldn't you be so stable during the season?
– We shoot 20 times at the goal, but how many goals are there? The main thing is to make fewer mistakes. Today's defeat is no different from the others. Defeat is defeat. We make a lot of mistakes and concede goals. This was our problem this season.
– Is there any specificity to qualify for European cups from Azerbaijan?
– "Qarabag" is successful in Europe. This season, they also advanced to the Champions League play-off. Teams like "Araz-Nakhchivan" and "Zira" were also able to pass the stage. I also believe that "Sabah" will show good results.
– If you get a guarantee about increasing the budget, will you stay at the club?
– I may not be the best coach in the world, but when you work according to the plan, things go well. "Sumgayit" has enough potential. If some issues are resolved, the team will qualify for European cups. I am in favor of planned work.
