Real Madrid defender Raul Asensio will face trial for allegedly distributing an intimate video of a minor. According to "The Athletic", the trial will take place on September 3, 4, and 7 in Gran Canaria.
Asensio, 23, is accused along with his former Real Madrid teammates Ferran Ruis, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia. He is charged with two counts: distributing a video without the consent of the participant and distributing sexually explicit material involving a minor.
The case is related to events that took place in June 2023. According to allegations, an intimate video was recorded without the consent of the participants and was later distributed to others. Both alleged victims later withdrew their allegations against Asensio, but the judge ordered them to confirm their positions during the trial. The women did not withdraw their allegations against the other three accused.
The court also rejected the defense's request to exclude evidence obtained from the accused's phones, which were seized during the investigation. The court documents show that before their arrest, the accused created backup copies of their data in cloud storage and deleted the content of their devices. The court considered this an attempt to obstruct the investigation.
Note that the prosecutors initially requested a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Asensio. During the trial, the footballer denied his involvement in the crime.
