A new generation of sensor-equipped balls will be used at the 2026 World Cup.
Idman.Biz reports that a special sensor placed inside the ball will record the exact position of each touch.
For information, it should be noted that in the 2022 World Cup, this sensor was suspended inside the ball with wires. In the new model, the sensor is placed inside one of the parts of the outer layer of the ball.
The data obtained will be combined with 12 cameras installed around the stadium. The cameras will track the position of the ball and every player on the field 50 times per second.
All data will be transmitted to the VAR system in real time and will be used to determine goal episodes and offside decisions. It was reported that the sensor is very light, imperceptible to the players, and its battery lasts up to six hours.
