Luis Enrique has abandoned the idea of making Matvey Safonov the main goalkeeper to put pressure on Lucas Chevalier. Yesterday, Safonov appeared in the starting lineup for PSG for the third consecutive time.
In the previous two games at the beginning of the season, the Russian goalkeeper did not concede a goal.
Sport24.az reports that, according to "L"Equipe", influential people in PSG suggested to the head coach a few weeks ago to create competition between the goalkeepers against the backdrop of the difficulties Chevalier experienced at the beginning of the season. Similar steps were taken last season regarding Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, Enrique rejected this idea and believed that Chevalier needs constant playing practice to be able to perform at a stable level.
It is noted that the head coach of PSG highly appreciates Chevalier's playing qualities, especially his tactical preparation and ability to play with his feet. Enrique plans to maintain the French goalkeeper's main status in order to speed up the adaptation process ahead of important games in the second half of the season.
PSG says that there is currently no hierarchy in the team and there is competition in every position, including the goalkeeper position. Enrique's main task for the rest of the season will be to effectively use the goalkeepers.
