The president of the Spanish La Liga, Javier Tebas, is in danger of being disqualified or removed from office. The reason is the disclosure of confidential financial information belonging to the "Barcelona" football club.
Lent.az reports with reference to foreign media that the Spanish Sports Administrative Tribunal (TAD) opened a case against Tebas on Friday, November 21. The accusation is related to "the public disclosure of information and indicators submitted by "Barcelona" in accordance with the club's budget preparation rules, through a statement dated April 2, 2025, on the official website of La Liga." According to the rules, such information is considered confidential and is subject to the law on data protection.
The main reason for the case is the financial problems experienced by "Barcelona" last season. At that time, the Catalan club faced difficulties in registering Dani Olmo, whom they transferred from Leipzig in the summer of 2024 for 55 million euros. La Liga had previously announced that there were financial irregularities in the club due to problems with the sale of VIP boxes at the "Camp Nou" stadium. A new audit by the league revealed that "Barcelona" had illegally included 100 million euros of unearned revenue from unsold VIP seats in its reports. This led the league to intend to cancel the deal that previously allowed the footballer to register.
"Barcelona" has accused Javier Tebas of violating confidentiality rules. After this announcement, La Liga removed the information from its official website and other platforms. If TAD finds Tebas guilty, he faces penalties ranging from public censure to disqualification or removal from office for a period of 2 months to 1 year.
