Minnesota United and Colombia national team midfielder James Rodriguez spoke about his experience working under Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid.
Idman.Biz reports that Zidane managed Real in 2016-18 and 2019-21. Rodriguez played for the club from 2014-20.
"I trained quite well under Zidane. During the games, I did everything right, played well, scored goals, and made productive passes. But when it came time to play important matches, I found myself out of the starting lineup. Then I started to get angry and ask myself, "What else do I have to do?"
The newspapers were full of criticism because the focus was on my looks when I sat on the substitutes' bench with an angry face. This created a toxic atmosphere. From the beginning, the coach had 12 or 13 permanent starting players; I think that was a kind of meanness. But I never had a personal problem with Zidane. I just wanted to play. He deserves respect because he has won a lot of titles," Marca quotes Rodriguez.
