At a meeting of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), a proposal to appeal to UEFA for the removal of Israeli teams from European competitions was approved.
According to Idman.Biz, the FAI claims that the participation of Israeli clubs from settlements in the West Bank violates UEFA's statutes and that the Israeli Football Association has not implemented an "effective anti-racism policy". Israel denies these accusations.
According to "The Guardian", the FAI points to Israel's creation of clubs in the "occupied Palestinian territories" without the consent of the Palestinian Football Association.
The FAI resolution was supported by 74 votes, with seven against and two abstentions. UEFA has not yet commented on the initiative proposed by Dublin's "Bohemians" club.
It should be reminded that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended discussions on the exclusion of Israeli teams from European football competitions at the end of September after US President Donald Trump announced a peace plan for the region.
