Florentino Perez, president of the Spanish football club "Real Madrid", has revealed the reason for the decision to hold extraordinary presidential elections.
Idman.Biz reports that Perez explained the reasons for announcing the elections, even though his term of office lasts until 2029.
"I will explain why I announced early elections. I could have stayed in office for another three years if I wanted to," said the head of the club.
According to Perez, he discovered a few months ago an organized campaign aimed at destabilizing Real Madrid and targeting him personally:
"This is a democratic and transparent club. It is not true that some people say that I am preventing the elections from being held. These are always said by people who want to take over the club. They are trying to do it now as well."
The president of Real Madrid stated that after the emergence of a new candidate, it became clear who was behind that campaign:
"These are the same people left over from the worst period in the club's history - the Ramon Calderon era. They are here not to save the club, but to benefit from Real Madrid."
Perez also criticized the opposing candidate for asking for a loan of 54 percent for his business:
"How can such a person manage a club like Real Madrid? Now we know why no Spanish bank gave him a bank guarantee."
The head of the club stated that Real Madrid is the most successful club in the world in terms of finance and sports:
"We have won six Champions Leagues in 10 years. If elected, we will continue to win in the same way."
