The Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) national football team faces the threat of being excluded from the 2026 World Cup due to the "Ebola" epidemic spreading in the country.
Lent.az reports that ESPN has released information about this.
According to Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House's World Cup Working Group, the team must undergo a 21-day quarantine in Belgium before traveling to the United States. Otherwise, they may not be allowed to enter the countries hosting the tournament.
The Congo DR national team decided to cancel its training camp in Kinshasa due to the epidemic and continue its preparation in Belgium. The team will face Portugal, Uzbekistan, and Colombia in the group stage.
It should be noted that on May 17, the World Health Organization declared the "Ebola" epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda an international emergency. Currently, approximately 750 suspected cases and 177 deaths have been recorded in Congo DR.
