The Azerbaijani national football team will seriously prepare for the next match.
According to Idman.Biz, the team's head coach Aykhan Abbasov stated this at a press conference.
The specialist shared his thoughts after the victory (6:1) over Saint Lucia in the "FIFA Series – 2026" international tournament:
"I thank the fans who did not leave us alone. It was difficult to play in such weather. Both teams were struggling. We wanted to score from the first minute. We succeeded in this.
There were new players in the team. We will seriously prepare for the next match. Our next opponent is stronger. We want to make our fans happy."
A.Abbasov recalled that they faced serious rivals in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup: "We used to be proud of the fighting spirit of the players. Now the result is very important. The players had a desire to score goals and win. We know that we have to win in the UEFA Nations League."
The head coach also added that there is competition in the national team: "We want to give everyone a chance. Some are in better shape. It was a great chance for us to see everyone on the field."
The specialist also touched upon achieving the biggest victory in the history of the national team: "They said it at the press conference yesterday. They reminded me at that time. We had not instructed the players that there must be a record result. We just wanted to score goals. This makes us happy."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team will face Sierra Leone on March 30 at the same arena.
