Afsaneh Chatrnour, a member of the Iranian women's national team, revealed shocking facts about the psychological pressure and offers of defection made to team members during a tournament in Australia.
Idman.Biz reports that the football player stated that local police and some individuals tried to scare them by claiming that there were security problems in Iran.
Chatrnour emphasized that they were promised houses, cars, and permanent residence permits in Australia, but her decision to return was firm. According to the football player, the most severe pressure against them was the dissemination of false information about their families:
"They were telling us that our families were being held hostage. They even said that supposedly my mother sent a message ordering me not to return to Iran. However, at that time communication lines were cut off, and we could not talk to our families. They were trying to scare us with these lies and force us to stay there."
Afsaneh Chatrnour noted that Australian police and other officials used various excuses to talk to the football players individually:
"They called us under the pretext of a doping test and asked questions about the security situation in Iran. At the airport, they also talked to each of us individually. The Australian police told me that I could stay here, and every condition would be provided. But these promises were not interesting to me because my only goal was to return to my country."
It should be noted that Chatrnour stated that she returned despite the persistent offers made to her at both Australian and Malaysian airports.
