Turkish young grandmaster Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş has risen to 38th place in the world ranking by defeating another strong opponent.
İdman.Biz reports that 14-year-old Erdoğmuş has won his next brilliant victory at the "2026 Tata Steel Masters" tournament held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.
In the next round of the tournament, the young grandmaster defeated Czech grandmaster Thai Dai Van Nguyen, who is ranked 59th in the world with an Elo rating of 2656. With this, Erdoğmuş has achieved his third victory in the last four games.
After this result, Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş's Elo rating has risen to 2688. He has climbed to 38th place in the world ranking, marking another important advance in his career. The young chess player, who is only half a point behind the leader in the tournament, is currently in third place.
It should be noted that Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş is currently training under the guidance of Shahriyar Mammadyarov, a well-known Azerbaijani grandmaster and two-time World Champion among chess players under 20 years old. Experts attribute his rapid development in recent times to this collaboration.
The 2688 Elo points have brought Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş one step closer to the elite "2700 club". The young grandmaster's next opponent will be world champion Dommaraju Gukesh.
