The Azerbaijani chess club "Vugar Gashimov" can become a prize-winner of the European Club Cup, but for this, it must win a sensational victory.
Idman.Biz reports that after a 4.5:1.5 victory over the German chess club "Werder", "Vugar Gashimov" rose to sixth place with 10 points, and if it wins the last - seventh round, it can be among the medalists of the tournament.
But for this, our team, consisting mainly of young Azerbaijani chess players, must defeat one of the favorites of the competition - the Czech club "Novy Bor", reinforced by several of the world's leading grandmasters. The opponent's squad includes strong players such as German Vincent Keymer, who is in the world's top ten, Indian chess players Santosh Vidit and Pentala Harikrishna, as well as experienced Czech David Navara.
It should be noted that Rauf Mammadov, Aydin Suleymanli, Ahmad Ahmadzade, Riad Samadov, Vugar Manafov, Khazar Babazade and Kazakh chess player Nogirbek Kazibek play for the "Vugar Gashimov" club.
The tournament table is headed by the Romanian "Superchess" with 12 points and the North Macedonian "Alkaloid" with 11 points. The games of the last round will be held on Saturday, October 25.
