Idman.Biz reports with reference to Report that Shahriyar Mammadyarov, a member of the Azerbaijani men's national team, who won a silver medal by finishing second in the European Team Chess Championship held in Batumi, Georgia, said this in a statement to journalists.
He noted that they fought hard for the first place:
"We fought for the first place until the last round. There could have been chances to win the first place. It's just that the Ukrainian team participated incredibly in the tournament. They beat everyone except us. They only lost to us. In fact, we also beat the champion team. That's why we feel comfortable. I thank my teammates, the federation, and everyone who supported us for the great result."
Mammadyarov emphasized that the Azerbaijani team has won many medals in the European Championship:
"We are first in Europe in terms of the number of medals. We have also won the most titles. I hope our other young people will also be stronger. In a few years, we will give our places to those young people. I hope they will continue the success we have achieved."
