The second games of the 1/4 final stage of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship have been held.
Idman.Biz reports that Shahriyar Mammadyarov, the rating favorite of the competition, drew with Ahmad Ahmadzade in the return match. Based on the results of the two games, the grandmaster, who was superior with a score of 1.5:0.5, qualified for the semi-finals.
In the women's competition, Ulviyya Fataliyeva eliminated Sabina Ibrahimova from the tournament, defeating her in both games. A 2:0 victory gave her the right to play in the semi-finals. Last year's champion, Gunay Mammadzade, lost both games to Ayan Allahverdiyeva and stopped the fight.
The winner has not been determined in the pairs Riad Samadov - Rauf Mammadov, Eltaj Safarli - Muhammad Muradli, Nijat Abasov - Aydin Suleymanli. A draw was also recorded in the matches Narmin Abdinova - Turkan Mammadyarova and Gulnar Mammadova - Khanim Balajayeva. Qualification for the semi-finals in these duels will be determined after the tie-break to be held tomorrow.
