Azerbaijani chess player Shahriyar Mammadyarov will participate in the World Team Rapid and Blitz Championship in China.
Idman.Biz reports that the 41-year-old grandmaster will play for the "KazChess" team in the competition.
Along with Shahriyar Mammadyarov, famous chess players Alexander Grischuk, Richard Rapport, Wang Hao, as well as Bibisara Assaubayeva and Kazybek Nogirbek are also in the team. With a strong team, "KazChess" is expected to be one of the main contenders for the tournament.
The World Championship will also feature world ranking leader Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana and other famous grandmasters.
It should be noted that the total prize fund of the competition, which will be held on June 16-22, is 500,000 euros. The tournament will be held in rapid and blitz format and teams will compete for the world title. One of the distinguishing features of the World Team Championship is that chess players from different countries can play in the same team. For this reason, many stars of world chess come together in the same team in the competition.
