The first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation in 2026 was held on April 10. According to Sport24.az, Mahir Mammadov, the president of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, who spoke at the meeting, stated that the Azerbaijan Championship among boys and girls aged 8-18, which was hosted by Ganja for the first time, was organized at a high level.
The head of ACF noted that distinguished teenagers will be supervised by coaches.
It was recalled that last year was declared the "Year of Social Chess" by the International Chess Federation - FIDE. For this reason, FIDE increased its attention to involving chess in social projects around the world in 2025. The International Chess Federation highly appreciated the social projects dedicated to chess in Azerbaijan in 2025 and awarded Aynur Sofiyeva, a member of the Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and a well-known chess player, with a specially prepared commemorative medal. During the meeting, the award was presented to Aynur Sofiyeva by the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, FIDE Vice President Mahir Mammadov.
At the meeting, which lasted more than two hours, the issues of establishing the Classification Commission and appointing the chairman of the commission, updating the organization's website and logo, preparing the women's national team, and making changes to the federation's support program were discussed.
At the meeting, the reports and proposals of Nijat Mammadov, the head coach of the children's and youth team, Raul Guliyev, the project specialist, Gadir Huseynov, the coach of the women's chess team, and Javanshir Bagirov, the head coach of chess of "Education" RİM, were heard.
The head of ACF, Mahir Mammadov, said that the federation is focused on the preparation of the national teams for the World Chess Olympiad to be held in Uzbekistan in the fall. Information was provided about the preparation of the men's chess team for the Olympiad with an individual program.
