The first matches of the 1/8 final stage of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship have been held.

It was reported that the rating favorite of the tournament Shahriyar Mammadyarov drew with Murad Ibrahimli, and last year's champion Rauf Mammadov drew with Shiroglan Talibov.
Eltaj Safarli defeated Kamal Agasiyev, Aydin Suleymanli defeated Rahim Gasimov, Muhammad Muradli defeated Ravan Aliyev, Read Samadov defeated Pasham Alizadeh, and Ahmad Ahmadzade defeated Vugar Rasulov. Nijat Abasov lost to Khagan Ahmad in the first game.
All games in the women's chess competition were productive. Last year's champion Gunay Mammadzade defeated Narmin Kazimova, and European champion Ulviyya Fataliyeva defeated Zahra Allahverdi.
