It has been revealed why Gunay Mammadzada, one of Azerbaijan's leading female chess players, will not participate in the upcoming European Championship.
According to the information provided to Idman.biz by the press service of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, G. Mammadzada recently became a mother and, therefore, was unable to prepare for the upcoming continental championship.
The information also notes that Gunay Mammadzada has replaced Ayan Allahverdiyeva in the national team.
Let us remind you that Gunay Mammadzada (with 2390 points) has long had the highest rating among Azerbaijani chess players and only recently gave up the lead to Ulviyya Fataliyeva.
Thanks to U. Fataliyeva's successful performance at the "Grand Swiss" tournament held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where she took 6th place, her current rating is 2410. A. Mammadzada is expected to return to active chess practice after her maternity leave.
Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Govhar Beydullayeva, Gulnar Mammadzada, and Ayan Allahverdiyeva will represent the Azerbaijani women's team at the European Team Championship, which will start on October 5 in Batumi, Georgia.
