"Baku Open 2026" International Chess Festival is very well organized."
This was stated by the President of the European Chess Union, Zurab Azmaiparashvili.
He said that there are enough participants in the tournament.
"Playing in such a hall is a great opportunity for chess players. Believe me, the organization is at a high level. We are happy to be here. We are glad that there is so much interest in the "Baku Open" tournament. But maybe there could have been a few more. Now about 900 chess players are competing in the competition, this number can be increased to 1500," he said in a statement to report.az.
It should be noted that more than 900 chess players from 10 countries are participating in the competition organized in Baku Crystal Hall. The prize fund of the "Baku Open 2026" International Chess Festival is 50 thousand US dollars.
Former world champion, two-time winner of the World Chess Olympiad Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine), world rapid champion Daniil Dubov (FIDE), prize-winner of the individual European Championship Nijat Abasov, winner of the European Championship among 14-year-olds Khagan Ahmad also joined the tournament.
