The reason why the result in the match, which is of a qualifying nature for the World Championship, was not in favor of the Azerbaijani national team is due to the team members' failure to properly assess the chances.
Gunay Mammadzada, a member of the team, told "Report" about this.
The 25-year-old grandmaster spoke about the match they lost to Uzbekistan.
"First of all, I thank you for your attention to Azerbaijani chess. I consider the promotion of women's chess in our country to be very important. I would like to bring to your attention that I had been away from professional chess for some time due to maternity leave. Unfortunately, for this reason, I could not participate in the national team during the European Championship. However, during my vacation, I continued my training and online games to not lose my form."
G. Mammadzada said that all meetings with this opponent took place in a tense atmosphere:
"This match was also preparatory for me for major tournaments after a long break. If we pay attention to my first three games, we will see that there were winning situations. But unfortunately, the break in my practice prevented me from turning the winning situations into victory. This tournament was also a chance to restore my form and evaluate the gaps. In general, I don't rate our team's games badly either. The reason why the result was not in our favor was because we did not properly assess the chances. Especially in the last match, we were very close to winning to equalize the overall situation. But unfortunately, luck doesn't always smile on you in sports. This time luck was on Uzbekistan's side, I congratulate them once again. Such results do not discourage us, on the contrary, they give us extra motivation. I hope that we will show our best game at the Olympiad to be held in Uzbekistan next year."
It should be noted that the Uzbekistan national team defeated the Azerbaijani national team with a final score of 8.5:7.5.
