The Azerbaijan Championship was Gunay Mammadzada's first classical chess tournament after her maternity leave.
The former national champion said this in a statement to "Report".
"I had taken a break from classical chess for a year. It was the first classical tournament I participated in after maternity leave. My main goal was to play chess. True, I had played in rapid and blitz tournaments before, but classical chess is completely different. A year's break and lack of practice showed themselves, so the result was somewhat expected. Of course, every chess player wants to win, and I did my best. But I couldn't prepare enough," said the international grandmaster.
G. Mammadzada noted that her next goal is the European Championship:
"The exact schedule is not yet known, but there is a European Championship in March. I will prepare for this competition."
It should be noted that G. Mammadzada, the winner of the Azerbaijan Championship last year, stopped the fight by losing to Ayan Allahverdiyeva in the 1/4 finals.
