The first games of the 1/4 final stage have been held in the Azerbaijan Chess Championship. Sport24.az reports that Mahir Mammadov, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Vice-President of the International Chess Federation, made the symbolic first move in this round.
Shahriyar Mamedyarov, the rating favorite of the competition, defeated Ahmad Ahmadzade with black pieces.
Draws were recorded in the matches Rauf Mammadov-Read Samadov, Mahammad Muradli-Eltaj Safarli, Aydin Suleymanli-Nijat Abasov.
In the women's competition, Ulviyya Fataliyeva defeated Sabina Ibrahimova with black pieces, and Ayan Allahverdiyeva defeated Gunay Mammadzada. Turkan Mammadyarova, playing with white pieces, defeated Narmin Abdinova. The game Khanim Balajayeva-Gulnar Mammadova ended in a draw.
The second games of the 1/4 final stage will be played today.
It should be noted that the championship will end on February 22. The total prize fund of the competition is 92,000 manats. 62,000 manats of this amount belongs to the men's championship and 30,000 manats to the women's championship.
