The first games of the 1/8 final stage were held in the Azerbaijan Chess Championship.
According to the information provided to "Report" from the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Shahriyar Mamedyarov, the rating favorite of the tournament, drew with Murad Ibrahimli, and last year's champion Rauf Mammadov drew with Shiroglan Talibov.
Eltaj Safarli defeated Kamal Agasiyev, Aydin Suleymanli defeated Rahim Gasimov, Mahammad Muradli defeated Ravan Aliyev, Read Samadov defeated Pasham Alizadeh, and Ahmad Ahmadzade defeated Vugar Rasulov. Nijat Abasov lost to Khagan Ahmad in the first game.
All games in the women's chess competition were productive. Last year's champion Gunay Mammadzade defeated Narmin Kazimova, and European champion Ulviyya Fataliyeva defeated Zahra Allahverdini.
In other matches, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Gulnar Mammadova, Turkan Mammadyarova, Ayan Allahverdiyeva and Sabina Ibrahimova won.
