According to Arkady Dvorkovich, the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Manchester City footballer Erling Haaland has shown interest in chess and wants to learn to play well. Sport24.az reports that the head of FIDE made a statement to the TASS agency about this:
"I spoke with several members of his family, his managers and those who manage his affairs. They all confirmed that Erling is interested in chess and has started training. He wants to play well. In addition to investing in the project, he helped attract additional partners, which will be announced soon.
This is definitely good for the popularity of chess. I hope it also improves his football skills. From personal experience, I know that it is easier to calculate options on the field when playing chess."
It should be noted that Haaland became an investor in the Total Chess World Championship some time ago.
