Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has become an investor in the Norway Chess tournament and the new Total Chess World Championship. Sport24.az reports that this was announced on the official website of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
The tournament will be held annually with the participation of the world's best chess players. The competition will consist of four tournaments held in four different cities. The new championship has been approved by FIDE for a minimum of 16 years.
A pilot tournament is planned for the fall of 2026, with the full season taking place in 2027. The prize pool for the competition will be at least $2.7 million.
