The closing ceremony of the "Baku Open 2026" International Chess Festival was held.
According to Idman.Biz, the event was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the European Chess Union Zurab Azmaiparashvili, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) Mahir Mammadov and other individuals.
ACF President Mahir Mammadov congratulated the winning participants.
"I welcome everyone attending the closing ceremony, including our honorary guests. I congratulate chess enthusiasts on this festival. Chess players of all ages participated here. The tournament was attended by a record number of participants," said Mammadov.
Then, a video showcasing the most memorable moments of the "Baku Open" tournaments was shown.
Later, the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov delivered a speech.
FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, noting that they witnessed an exciting competition as always, expressed his belief that Baku will continue to be one of the important centers for the development of chess.
Finally, the athletes who won places were awarded honorary diplomas, medals and gifts.
It should be noted that more than 900 chess players from 10 countries participated in the competition. The prize fund of the "Baku Open 2026" International Chess Festival is 50 thousand US dollars.
Former world champion, two-time winner of the World Chess Olympiad Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine), rapid world champion Daniil Dubov (FIDE), prize-winner of the individual European Championship Nijat Abasov, winner of the European Championship among 14-year-olds Khagan Ahmad also joined the tournament.
