The first games of the 1/4 final stage of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship have been played.
According to "Report", the symbolic first move in this round was made by the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Vice-President of the International Chess Federation, Mahir Mammadov.
The rating favorite of the competition, Shahriyar Mammadyarov, defeated Ahmad Ahmadzade with black pieces.
Draws were recorded in the matches Rauf Mammadov-Read Samadov, Mahammad Muradli-Eltaj Safarli, Aydin Suleymanli-Nijat Abasov.
In the women's competition, Ulviyya Fatalieva defeated Sabina Ibrahimova with black pieces, and Ayan Allahverdiyeva defeated Gunay Mammadzade. Turkan Mammadyarova, playing with white pieces, defeated Narmin Abdinova. The match Khanim Balajayeva-Gulnar Mammadova ended in a draw.
The second games of the ¼ final stage will be played today.
It should be noted that the championship will end on February 22. The total prize fund of the competition is 92 thousand manats. 62 thousand manats of this amount belongs to the men's championship, and 30 thousand manats to the women's championship.
