Azerbaijani grandmaster Aydin Suleymanli has taken the lead at the individual European Chess Championship in Katowice, Poland, after his next victory.
Idman.Biz reports that in the seventh round, Suleymanli won over Belgian representative Daniel Daroha. This was the fifth victory for the Azerbaijani chess player in the tournament - he also drew twice.
Thus, Aydin shares 1st-4th places with six points, but is in first place according to additional indicators. In the eighth round, he will face Georgian chess player Nikoloz Kacharava.
Another Azerbaijani, Nijat Abasov, who is in the top ten in the continental championship, defeated Swede Erik Blomqvist in the seventh round and is in 10th place with 5.5 points.
Other chess players representing Azerbaijan in Katowice, Muhammad Muradli, Shiroglan Talibov, Shahin Valiyev and Suleyman Suleymanli, scored 5 points each and are in 38th, 50th, 53rd and 56th places, respectively.
It should be noted that the European Championship consists of 11 rounds, and the chess players who take the first 20 places will qualify for the 2027 World Cup.
