Ziya Hasanli (63 kg), a member of the Azerbaijan taekwondo team, won the first gold medal for our country at the III CIS Games.

Sharing his emotions after the victory, the athlete said that he had been preparing for a long time and seriously to become a champion in these Games: "I achieved my goal and I am happy about it. The final fight was especially difficult, but I was able to win. It is a great feeling to win the first gold in our history in taekwondo at the CIS Games."
Ziya Hasanli had three fights on the way to the gold medal and showed great strength and dedication in each of them: "I faced three opponents. The most difficult was the last fight. But I was ready for it and I am very happy that I succeeded."
The young taekwondo player also announced that he has set a bigger goal: "My next goal is to become an Olympic champion."
