Azerbaijani boxers could have won more gold medals at the European Schoolboys Championships held in Zlatibor, Serbia.
This was stated by Vugar Mammadov, the head coach of the Azerbaijani cadet team, in an interview with "Report".
"We participated in the European Championship with 16 boxers in the boys' competition. 15 of them were among the medalists. Only one of our boxers was left without a medal. In total, we won 3 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals. The team's performance and preparation were very good and evident. We were competing with the Russians for the championship. We faced a lot of injustice. Despite this, we won gold medals. In fact, we should have had more gold medals. Unfortunately, the injustices did not allow it. Overall, we are satisfied with the team. We took second place among 21 countries."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani boxers finished the European Championship with a total of 3 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals.
