Tofiq Musayev, Azerbaijan's most famous MMA fighter and a participant in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) tournaments, suddenly disappeared from the media spotlight after his defeat against Kyrgyz fighter Myktybek Orolbai in a tournament held in Baku last year.
Idman.biz contacted the famous athlete Tofiq Musayev, who is currently in Thailand, and conducted a short but interesting interview with him.
- Tofiq bey, what are you doing in Thailand right now?
- I'm doing what I've been doing all my life - training and preparing for the next fight.
- Why Thailand specifically, is it not possible to prepare in Azerbaijan?
- I wanted to perfect my skills in Muay Thai and grappling, so I've been here for almost a month. Where can you find the best sparring partners in the world for these disciplines? Of course, in Thailand.
- What are your near-term plans?
- I am expected to fight in the UFC in December. The organization is currently looking for a suitable opponent for me. Therefore, I will go directly to the USA from here and continue my preparation there, closer to the center of events.
- Will your defeat in Baku affect the choice of opponent? I.e., could they assign you a weaker opponent now?
- Of course not! How can they choose a weak opponent for an athlete who has won 22 out of 28 fights? I am sure that when my opponent's name is announced, everyone will see - he is not weak at all and is at least as good as Orolbai in terms of level. I am already preparing for my 23rd victory.
