Famous UFC fighter Rafael Fiziev, born in Kazakhstan and raised in Kyrgyzstan, has been representing Azerbaijan in the international arena since 2021.
Idman.biz reports that he revealed the reason for this in an interview on his YouTube channel.
The fighter said that he made this decision after facing religious intolerance in Kyrgyzstan: "There was a religious scandal in Kyrgyzstan, persecution began. The Muftiate spoke out against my movement and against me personally without thinking. Then illiterate fanatics attacked - the hatred was terrible. So many criminal cases could have been opened there. The authorities did not pay attention, the public did not support. I thought that means it's not mine, it's not my home."
According to Rafael Fiziev, he felt that he could no longer call Kyrgyzstan his homeland and decided to link his career with a country that was closer to him in spirit and origin: "I went to where my historical homeland is, where people like me live. That's how it all happened."
