Scandal at European Championship: Azerbaijani coach chokes referee in the ring

A scandal occurred during the European Schoolboys Boxing Championship held in Zlatibor, Serbia.

İdman.biz reports, citing Teleqraf, that the conflict took place during the match between Yusif Agakishiyev, a member of the Azerbaijani national team, and local boxer Viktor Maystorovic.

The Azerbaijani coach, dissatisfied with the refereeing of Stefan Tsubalevski from North Macedonia, who was managing the match, initially protested verbally. Later, the coach entered the ring in the second round and started choking the referee.

As a result, the fight was stopped, and the Azerbaijani boxer was given a defeat. Maystorovic won the gold medal, and Agakishiyev won the silver medal.

According to a statement from the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, a legal action will be taken against technical director Hamza Avezov for not acting in accordance with sports ethics in the final match between Yusif Agakishiyev and Viktor Maystorovic: "In the fight, the referee from North Macedonia, Stefan Kuba Tsubalevski, was biased, prioritized his personal interests, and fraudulently deprived our boxer of a clean victory, stripping him of the championship. In this regard, as a federation, a request is being prepared to the relevant international organization for measures to be taken against the referee."
