Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Samir Huseynov, advisor to the president of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation (ABF), in a statement to journalists after the opening ceremony of the Southern Regional Boxing Center in Lankaran.
He stated that this was implemented in accordance with the federation's strategic plan and one of the main directions is aimed at developing boxing infrastructure in the regions: "We are considering holding zone competitions in this region. At the same time, we will ensure the training of coaches by attracting the most qualified trainers from different parts of the world. The creation of such infrastructure on an area of 2.5 hectares will further give a serious impetus to the development of boxing in this region."
The ABF official also announced the upcoming plans: "After this, along with the boxing center in a large area, it is also planned to build an additional dormitory for athletes to stay and train. I believe that in a short time, athletes from this region will raise the flag of Azerbaijan to the highest levels. If there were any before, this will increase even more. Serious athletes have grown up in this region. The lack of infrastructure has simply created certain difficulties. After this, in accordance with our plan, we will open boxing gyms in this region, as well as in Astara and Masalli. We are also planning to open a center in Gusar. Currently, we are in negotiations with the executive authority there regarding the land. I think we will implement this in the second half of the year."
It should be noted that in addition to the Southern Regional Boxing Center, the Baku Boxing Center and the Boxing Training Center at the Sumgayit city stadium also operate.
