Azerbaijani fighter Rafael Fiziyev, who performs in the UFC, has revealed why he couldn't face former champion Charles Oliveira.
Idman.biz reports that Fiziyev spoke about this in a video message he shared on social networks:
"Everyone is asking why I stayed out of the fight. I re-injured my knee. The preparation was going well, I was wrestling, but the knee couldn't take it again. Ligament tear, meniscus. Now the main thing is to recover. I have already had surgery on this knee twice. Timely treatment is important so that a third operation is not needed."
Fiziyev also revealed when he might return to the ring:
"I will be treated for a few months. I think I will return to fighting after the New Year. I need to get a chance to face a good opponent. Pray for me to recover soon."
It should be noted that Rafael Fiziyev's fight with Charles Oliveira was supposed to take place on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro. Polish Mateusz Gamrot will replace the Azerbaijani athlete in this meeting.
