Javier Mendez, coach of former UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, shared his thoughts on his fighter's upcoming fight against middleweight champion Jack Della Maddalena.
Idman.biz reports that the fight will take place in November at "UFC 322".
"If he can't take Maddalena down, then Islam will have to fight on his feet. But we have to take advantage of every opportunity. Our goal is not just to take Jack down, but to take advantage of the opportunities he gives us or that we create ourselves," Mendez said.
Makhachev has participated in 28 mixed martial arts fights, with a record of 27 wins and one loss. Della Maddalena has participated in 20 fights, with a record of 18 wins and two losses.
