34-year-old former UFC lightweight champion, Russian Islam Makhachev, spoke about preparing for his upcoming welterweight debut fight against current UFC welterweight (up to 77 kg) champion, Australian Jack Della Maddalena.
İdman.Biz reports that Makhachev admitted that preparing for the upcoming fight is difficult for him.
"This camp is really hard. I'm gaining weight, getting bigger and constantly changing sparring partners. Some of them are really big enough in size. This is a very difficult gathering. Weights have also changed and it is difficult to lift them. But I feel good.
It was very difficult to gain weight. Now I've grown a bit. I have been working on this for the last few months. I use creatine and protein after every workout. I try to eat more. I am constantly in contact with nutritionists at the UFC Performance Institute to stay in shape," Makhachev said in an interview with ESPN.
