The positive doping test of Uzbek Lazizbek Mullajanov, who defeated Azerbaijani boxer Alfonso Dominguez in the final of the Paris Summer Olympics, has no connection with the competition held in France last year.
This was stated to "Report" by Murad Farzaliyev, press secretary of the National Olympic Committee (IOC).
The official of the organization emphasized that the sample was the result of a test given after the Summer Olympic Games:
"This is a sample from a test taken after the Olympics. That is, it does not refer to the Summer Olympic Games held in Paris. The athlete's B sample will also be examined. This concerns the last test given on July 11. Therefore, there is no process related to this yet. We don't know whether they will investigate it later or not. This is already the work of the anti-doping commission. In fact, these samples have nothing to do with the Olympics."
It should be noted that L. Mullajanov won a gold medal in the 92 kg weight category at Paris-2024. He defeated Alfonso Dominguez, a member of the Azerbaijani national team, in the decisive match.
The 26-year-old athlete's doping test was positive for metasterone - a synthetic anabolic steroid that helps with rapid muscle mass gain, as well as increased endurance and physical strength.
A sample was taken from Mullajanov on June 11. He now has the right to request analysis of his B sample. If the result of the B sample confirms the data of the first sample, the athlete will be disqualified for violating anti-doping rules.
