British boxer Fabio Wardley, the holder of the undisputed world champion (WBA) title, has stated that the sparring sessions he had with undefeated Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk (a training fight conducted by an athlete to prepare for a real fight - ed.) were of great importance in his career.
Idman.Biz reports that he said this in a statement to the foreign press.
"Sparring with Usyk? It was back in October 2018, so about seven years ago. At that time, I was just starting my boxing career and learning a lot. Sparring with him was a great experience for me - I took a lot of punches, but at the same time, I gained invaluable knowledge," said F. Wardley.
The British boxer added that he learned the most important lesson from that period regarding the training process:
"At that time, I learned from him how to properly plan sparring days - what to do before and after performing in the ring. I took exactly these small details from Oleksandr Usyk," he said.
