Azerbaijani karate fighter representing Ukraine: "It is a source of pride for me to see my native land Aghdam being rebuilt" – INTERVIEW

Another athlete of Azerbaijani origin living in Ukraine has achieved success. Our compatriot Rizvan Talibov recently won a bronze medal at the European Karate Championship.

Our young compatriot, born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, is originally from Karabakh. His father is from the village of Novruzlu in Aghdam, and his mother is from the city of Aghdam. Idman.biz reports that AZERTAC met with our compatriot and interviewed him about his successes and future goals.

- How did you develop a passion for karate?

- Thank you for paying attention to our compatriots living in Ukraine. Of course, my passion for sports, especially karate, started when I was a child. And this is not without reason. If Azerbaijani blood flows in my veins, then my passion for sports is not accidental. There are enough world-famous karate fighters from Azerbaijan.

- Who supported you the most in your sports career?

- My parents were the first to support me in becoming an athlete. Their contribution to my success is also great.

- What can you say about your achievements?

- Until 2020, I trained in Chernivtsi. For the last three years, I have been training intensively in Kyiv. I am an international master of sports of Ukraine. In 2023, I became the European Karate Champion. In 2017-2022, I won the title of Champion of Ukraine.

- What is your main goal as an athlete?

- One of my main goals is to win an Olympic medal. I continue to train tirelessly to achieve this goal. I believe that I will achieve my goal. I have a lot of energy and desire for this.

- You are originally from Karabakh, from Aghdam. Now, many regions and cities of Azerbaijan, including Aghdam, have been liberated from occupation and these territories are being rebuilt. How does it feel to see this?

- Of course, what is happening is a source of pride. Especially for Azerbaijanis living abroad. Now we feel happier and more fortunate. In all competitions, I represented not only Ukraine, but also Azerbaijan internally. As soon as I have the opportunity, I want to go to the beautiful Aghdam and see its beauty. I hope I will be fortunate enough to go to my homeland. Azerbaijan is my motherland and it will always remain so. I also see Ukraine as my second homeland. I love this country very much. I am a lucky athlete that people from Azerbaijan and Ukraine support me in international tournaments. I also feel the support of the Azerbaijani people in all competitions. This gives me extra strength. All this is very valuable and pleasant for me.
