Azerbaijani karate athletes have won 6 medals at the "Chisinau Karate Open Grand Prix" tournament held in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.
"Report" reports with reference to the press service of the Deaflympics Committee that 16 people, including 6 karate athletes with hearing impairments, represented Azerbaijan at the tournament.
At the tournament with the participation of 287 athletes, hearing-impaired athletes competing in different weight categories in the "Senior Deaf" category won 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals. Elnur Gasimzade (67 kg) won gold, Hikmat Agayev (60 kg), Aliakbar Alizade (75 kg) won silver, and Shaig Osmanov (75 kg), Sahib Sahibli, Elmin Huseynli (both 84 kg) won bronze medals.
Athletes competed under the leadership of head coach Seymur Khudaverdiyev.
It should be noted that the Deaflympics Committee, which started operating in October 2023, aims to develop physical education and sports among people with hearing impairments, to achieve their rehabilitation and integration into our healthy society through this means, as well as to widely develop sports included in the deaflympic program in which people with limited hearing abilities are interested in the country, and to train athletes in these sports.
The Committee has been admitted to the membership of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (Deaflympics - ICSD) since 2025.
