The performance of the Azerbaijan national boxing team at the World Cup held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, was satisfactory.
This was stated to "Report" by the head coach of the team, Nariman Abdullayev.
He emphasized that despite the fact that the team leaders could not go to the competition, other boxers performed well:
"Several leaders of the team, including Alfonso Dominquez, could not go to the competition due to injuries. Despite this, our boxer Subhan Mammadov (50 kg) showed a very good result in his weight category. Although it was the first time he competed among adults in this competition. The fight could have even ended in our favor. But the opposite happened, the opponent was also a very famous and strong boxer. As for the higher weights, our boxers won two fights. It was difficult to defeat Kazakh boxers. There were some shortcomings. But the team's performance at the World Cup is, of course, satisfactory".
N.Abdullayev hopes that they will go to the upcoming world championship with a full squad:
"We will prepare for the world championship. I hope that we will be able to go to the competition with a full team".
It should be noted that Azerbaijani boxers Subhan Mammadov (50 kg), Mahammadali Gasimzade (60 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) won bronze medals at the World Cup held in Kazakhstan.
