Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Ziya Babashov is proud to have become the champion of the "Muhamet Malo" tournament held in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
"Report" reports that the athlete said this in a statement to the press service of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
Ziya Babashov expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him in the competition:
"I am grateful to everyone who prayed and supported me. The competition was held at a high level and in a strong competitive environment. There were many ambitious rivals. This was one of the most important competitions for me. I had good matches until the final. In the final, I faced my teammate. Although Sakit Guliyev and I are friends and teammates, each of us does our best to win on the carpet. I hope we were able to show a match worthy of the final.
Many people stand behind this victory - the coaching staff and our team. This success is also the result of their efforts. This is my first medal in the ranking tournament. I am very proud of it. I believe that our successes will be continuous."
It should be noted that Ziya Babashov, who competed in the 63 kg weight category, faced another Azerbaijani representative, Sakit Guliyev, in the final. Although a 1:1 draw was recorded in the match, Ziya Babashov won based on the first point principle, winning the gold medal of the tournament, and Sakit Guliyev won the silver medal.
