"Several of our athletes could have won gold medals at the European Championship".
These words were said by Jabrayil Hasanov, the head coach of the Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling team, which took second place in the team standings at the U-23 European Championship held in Zrenjanin, Serbia.
He positively assessed the team's performance.
"The result could have been better. If Yusif Dursunov, who competed in the 125 kg, had not made a technical mistake, he would have won a gold medal. We also expected a great result from Aganazar Novruzov (74 kg). As you know, he won a European award among adults," he said in a statement to AZERTAC.
The expert also spoke about future goals:
"We have the U-23 World Championship ahead of us. There is also the European Championship among adults. We will work on the mistakes here. We thank everyone who supported us".
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling team won a total of 8 medals in the competition, including 1 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze, and took second place in the team standings.
