Interview of Elvar Osmanov, the president of the women's volleyball club "Ganja", to AZERTAC
- How is your team preparing for the new season?
- We have purposefully formed the "Ganja" volleyball club with a modern approach. We have transferred new players to our team. We want to have a medal. Last year, our team became the silver medalist of the Azerbaijan Cup. In snow volleyball, we took third place. But our main goal was to win a medal in the Azerbaijan championship. Unfortunately, we didn't get a medal, but this makes us even stronger. We prepared very well for the last season. Due to certain reasons, we were able to take 4th place. I believe that we will show our best performance this season. We have transferred Sharon Chepchumba, a Kenyan two-time Olympian and Asian Games winner. May we have success in both Azerbaijani volleyball and Ganja this year, let's watch interesting games. We believe that we will show a good game. You know that the number of teams has increased. We will try to represent the name of Ganja properly both in the region and on a national scale.
- We see a graduate of the Ganja volleyball school in the team. What other work is being done in this area?
- A lot of high-level work is being done in this area by the "Ganja" Regional Volleyball Club. As we know, one of the biggest plans of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation is to ensure the development of this sport in the regions. Already 9 regional clubs are operating. These clubs are doing serious work in the region and achieving success. The Dashkasan region became the champion of Azerbaijan among children this year. It was the first time that the national championship was held among children.
- How is the interest in volleyball in Ganja now?
- They already see that a big team has been formed and is developing. Therefore, parents direct their children to this sport. I think that volleyball is the best sport for girls. As you know, there is a similar approach in China - malignant diseases are not found in women who play sports. There are three sports that women who practice them do not get cancer. These are volleyball, swimming and cycling. Volleyball is one of the sports that serves both the development of women and national values.
- Who will be "Ganja"'s main rival in the league this season?
- All teams are strong this year. It is almost impossible to say that there is a weak team. We will see who is weak and strong on the field.
- What can you say about the current state of Azerbaijani volleyball?
- Development is noticeable in Azerbaijani volleyball. Children's volleyball is developing not only in the capital, but also in the regions. There is great interest in this sport among both girls and boys. Based on the instructions of the Federation, selection works are carried out in the regions.
