Irina Milanovic: I will never forget the championship season at "Azerreyl"

An interview with Serbian volleyball player Irina Milanovic, who spent the last two seasons in Azerbaijan, for Idman.biz

- You spent two confident seasons in Azerbaijan. What can you say about that period?

- To be honest, I didn't even know what to expect. I didn't know anything about the country, the people, or the life there. In the end, I lived in Baku for two years and I can say that I enjoyed it very much. I spent the first season at "Murov" - we took third place. In my second season in Azerbaijan, I changed clubs and moved to "Azerreyl", who became champions. There were a lot of foreigners in the team, and our coach was Italian. All the games were played in Baku. There were no away games, and that was very easy for us. We started the season badly. But later we found our game and became champions. I am sure that I will never forget last season!

- You were named the best player of the final stage of the Azerbaijan Super League and the best attacker of the entire season. How did you manage this?

- Volleyball is a team sport. I am sure that I could not have won the title of best attacker without the participation of the whole team. I am a young player. I need good coaches and players to look up to and learn from. I always try to do my best to improve my game as much as possible. Of course, this takes time and a lot of work.

- Why did you decide to accept the offer from "Leningradka"?

- "Leningradka" is a big step forward for me. The club is one of the best in Russia. There are a lot of good players in the team and I think I made the right decision by going there.

- What qualities should a good diagonal attacker have?

- A diagonal attacker must have flawless technique and consistency. We do a lot on the court, so we have to work hard in training and improve our skills every day.

- What was your most memorable match?

- The last final game I played in Azerbaijan. No one expected us to win the championship, but we played the best game of the season and became champions. I still remember that adrenaline. It was an incredible match for us!

It should be noted that before Milanovic's transfer, Elizaveta Ruban, the attacker of the Azerbaijani national team, who previously played for the Romanian club "Alba", also moved to "Leningradka".
