Azerbaijani national volleyball player Kristina Besman took tenth place with "Omička" in the Russian championship.
She shared the results of the intense season with Idman.Biz.
The setter stated that tenth place is the highest result for the team, which has only existed for the second year.
"Of course, we wanted to get into the playoffs, but everything is done in stages. Our main advantage this season was team play and the coach's instructions. But if we had performed better in individual games, we could have settled in a higher position," the team captain emphasized.
Among the regular season games, she specifically noted both matches against "Leningradka". Another volleyball player of the Azerbaijani national team, Yelizaveta Ruban, plays in that team:
"I would choose these games in terms of tension and emotions. The matches took place in an atmosphere of uncompromising struggle. There were a lot of emotions on the court and the fans enjoyed such volleyball."
She added that "Omička" began playing home games in a new arena, which led to some matches taking place in an unforgettable atmosphere:
"It was quite exciting, and it is impossible to prepare for such pleasant stress as a team. Here, each volleyball player approached it individually."
Kristina also spoke about the various omens and traditions she follows before games:
"Now there are not many of them. But, for example, I try not to share my hair ties with my teammates before games."
Besman also recalled the difficult period of the season. At that time, "Omička" fell into a losing streak, losing four games in a row:
"This always creates psychological pressure. Because goals are set and a losing streak affects the club's situation. Sometimes the opponent shows their best game, and sometimes we make mistakes ourselves and cannot defeat the opponent. The way out of this situation is always the same - to work, to be patient, to find strength in yourself and not to lose heart! After each game, we discuss what we did well and what we did badly, we analyze and move forward."
She added that the main goal of "Omička" in the next season will be to qualify for the playoffs.
